Change language and translate documents

3 min readLast checked:

In short

Slaide's interface is available in English and German. Open Settings and choose EN or DE under Language. The document language is a separate instruction: name it in your request, or ask the assistant to translate existing pages. Switching the interface does not translate a document.

How do I change the interface language?

Slaide settings, Profile area: the list of areas on the left, the profile with display name and the EN and DE language switch on the right.
  1. Step 1: Open Settings

Open Settings in your Slaide account. The language selector is in the profile area, under Language.

  2. Step 2: Choose EN or DE

Select EN for English or DE for German. Slaide refreshes the interface using the selected language; you do not need to create a new account.

  3. Step 3: Check the document separately

Your pages keep their existing wording. To change that wording, send a translation request in the document chat rather than switching the interface again.

The choice is remembered in a browser cookie and applies across Slaide's app and website. Another browser or device can therefore have a different interface language. Browser privacy settings that clear cookies can reset the remembered choice.

Can I create a document in another language?

Specify the target language in your brief. The interface language and the document language are separate: you can use the English interface to request a German presentation, for example. State the audience, tone and terms that should remain unchanged as well.

Example request

Create a six-slide presentation in German for our sales team. Use informal second person, keep product names in English and preserve all figures from the attached report. Do not translate company names.

For languages beyond English and German, review spelling, tone and specialist terminology in the result. The request guides the AI; it does not provide professional translation certification. See Write a good brief for the information to include.

How do I translate an existing document?

  1. Step 1: Open the document

Open the existing document from your library and identify the pages you want translated. Say explicitly whether the request covers the whole document or selected pages.

  2. Step 2: Ask for the translation

Name the target language and the content to preserve: figures, links, product names and sources. Request the same structure if you want a translated version of the current design.

  3. Step 3: Review every changed page

Check longer headings and paragraphs for wrapping or overflow. Different languages need different amounts of space; ask for shorter wording where the translation crowds the layout.

Example request

Translate pages 1 to 4 into English. Keep the current design, figures, source links and product names. Use concise wording that fits the existing text boxes.

What should I check after translation?

  • Check proper names and technical terms against your own glossary.
  • Check date formats, currencies and decimal separators; translation should not change the underlying amounts.
  • Read the exported file as well as the editor preview, especially if the target language uses a different script. See Fonts in exports.

You can correct one word directly with manual editing, or send a focused follow-up request with the page number. For a previous wording, inspect version history before restoring an older document state.

Frequently asked questions

Which language does Slaide write in if I do not name one?

The language of your request. Slaide decides from the text you wrote, not from the interface language or your browser: a German request gives German questions, a German plan and a German document even in the English interface, and an English request stays English in the German interface. If the language is unclear or mixed, Slaide uses English. Name the target language when you want something else.

Does changing EN to DE translate my pages?

No. EN and DE change Slaide's interface labels. Existing document text stays as it is until you edit it or ask the assistant for a translation.

Can the document language differ from the interface?

Yes. State the target language in the document request. You can work in the English interface while requesting German text, or the other way around.

Why did my language choice reset?

Slaide remembers the interface choice in a browser cookie. A different browser, another device or cleared cookies can change that remembered preference. Choose EN or DE again in Settings.
