Work on a document together with others

6 min readLast checked:

In short

To work on a document with someone, open the sharing panel in the editor, stay on the People tab and enter their email address. Slaide sends an invitation, and once the person accepts it with that address, you both edit the same document and see who is in it. You stay the owner: AI tasks, credits, publishing and the list of people stay with you.

How does working together in Slaide work?

You invite people to a document by email. An invited person becomes an editor: they open the same document as you, change its pages directly and see who else is in it. You stay the owner, and AI tasks, credits, publishing and the list of people stay with you. There are only these two roles. People who should only read use the public link instead, see Share a document: public link, embed, gallery.

How do I invite someone?

The sharing panel of a document in Slaide with the tabs People, Link and Embed. The People tab shows the field for inviting by email with the Invite button, and below it the owner, one person with access and one pending invitation.
  1. Step 1: Open the document

Open it in the editor. Only the owner can invite people.

  2. Step 2: Open the People tab

Click the arrow next to Share. The panel opens on the People tab.

  3. Step 3: Enter the email addresses

Under Invite people by email, type up to five addresses, separated by commas, semicolons or spaces. Click Invite.

  4. Step 4: The person gets an email

Slaide sends each address an invitation with an Accept invitation button. Until the person accepts, the address shows as Pending in your list.

  5. Step 5: The person accepts

The person signs in or signs up with exactly the invited address, confirms it if Slaide asks, and clicks Accept invitation. The document opens and appears in the library with the label Shared with you.

What happens when several people edit at once?

Changes sync between everyone who has the document open. On larger screens the header shows a small circle with the initial for up to three other people in the document and a “+N” chip for the rest. Hover over a circle to see the name and the page, click it to jump there. A green dot means the person is editing right now. The page thumbnails carry the same small mark, for up to three people.

  • Different pages: no conflict. Every change arrives on the other screens.
  • Same page, different elements: Slaide keeps both changes.
  • Same element: the later change wins. A change to an element the other person just deleted is dropped.
  • A change that cannot be merged: Slaide shows “This page was changed elsewhere in the meantime. Your last change was not applied.” Make it again.

Who pays, and which plan do invited people need?

WhatDepends on
Credits for AI tasksThe owner. Only the owner starts AI tasks, so only the owner's credits are used.
Page limit of the documentThe owner's plan: 3 pages on Free, 12 on Plus, no plan limit on Pro and Max. Editors cannot add pages beyond it.
Free-plan mark on exportsThe owner's plan. An export made by an editor is marked, or not marked, like an export made by the owner.
The editor's own planNothing. A free account with a confirmed email address is enough.

Editing by hand and managing pages use no credits. See How credits work in Slaide and Plans and pricing.

What if my whole team uses Slaide?

For teams of three or more, Slaide offers a team plan on request, with shared credits and one invoice. Describe what your team builds on the team page and ask for a plan and a price.

How do I remove someone?

The sharing panel of a document in Slaide with the tabs People, Link and Embed. The People tab shows the field for inviting by email with the Invite button, and below it the owner, one person with access and one pending invitation.
  1. Step 1: Open the People tab

Click the arrow next to Share and stay on the People tab.

  2. Step 2: Click the X

Click the X next to the person (Remove access), or next to a pending invitation (Revoke invitation).

  3. Step 3: Check the result

Access ends right away. The document disappears from that person's library, and a pending invitation link stops working. Work already in the document stays.

Frequently asked questions

Do the people I invite need a paid plan?

No. An invited person needs a Slaide account with a confirmed email address, and a free account is enough. Credits, the page limit and the free-plan mark on exports follow the owner's plan, not the editor's.

Can I give someone view-only access?

Not by invitation, because invited people are editors. To let people only read, share the public link and switch off Allow use as template if you do not want copies. See Share a document: public link, embed, gallery.

The invitation says it belongs to another email address. What now?

An invitation works only for the address it was sent to. Sign in to Slaide with exactly that address, or ask the owner to invite the address you use. If Slaide asks you to confirm your email address first, use Resend link under Settings, Account, then open the invitation link again.

The invitation is invalid or expired. What now?

An invitation is valid for 7 days, and the owner can revoke it. Ask the owner to invite you again, which sends a new link and replaces the old one. If the sign-in itself fails, see I can't sign in to Slaide: causes and fixes.

Can I leave comments for my team on a slide?

No. Slaide has no comments. People edit the pages themselves and see who is in the document and on which page. For feedback from people who only read, share the public link, see Share a document: public link, embed, gallery.
