Troubleshooting
I can't sign in to Slaide: causes and fixes
In short
If you cannot sign in to Slaide, read the message on the screen: “Email or password is incorrect” usually means a typo or an account created with Google or Apple. “Please confirm your email first” means the confirmation link was not clicked yet. The reset mail describes its link as a one-time link that expires after an hour. If nothing helps, write to info@slaide.de.
Which message do I see when I cannot sign in?
Pick the message or situation that matches yours. Each answer names the most likely cause and links to the full steps further down.
Slaide says my email or password is incorrect
You see “Email or password is incorrect.” The message does not say which of the two is wrong. Check these causes in this order.
- A typo. Use Show password in the password field to see what you typed, and check the email address for spelling mistakes.
- You signed up with Google or Apple. Such an account has no password until you set one (see Create an account and sign in to Slaide). Click Continue with Google or Continue with Apple instead. The Last used badge shows which one you used last in this browser.
- You used a different email address. Try the other addresses you might have signed up with.
- You forgot the password. Reset it with Forgot your password? as described below.
Slaide asks me to confirm my email first
You see “Please confirm your email first, check your inbox.” An account created with email and password stays locked until you click the link in the confirmation mail.
- Open the confirmation mail from Slaide and click Confirm email & start.
- Check your spam folder. Mails from a new sender often end up there.
- Resend the mail. Under the error message on the sign-in page, click Resend confirmation email. A resent mail can arrive in English.
- Check the address you registered with. A mistyped address never receives a mail. Register again with the correct one.
The confirmation or reset email does not arrive
Go through these causes in this order.
- Spam or promotions folder. Look for a mail from Slaide. After sign-up, the “Confirm your email to start” screen shows an Open Gmail, Open Outlook, Open Yahoo Mail or Open iCloud Mail button if your address belongs to that provider.
- A typo in the address. A mistyped address gets no mail.
- No account for this address. For a password reset, Slaide always shows “If an account exists for this address, we've sent you a link to reset your password.” You cannot tell from the screen whether a mail was sent, so try the address you signed up with.
- The address already has an account. When you sign up with it, Slaide says “An account with this email already exists.” and sends no confirmation mail. Click Sign in instead or Reset your password.
- The mail is in English. In some cases, for example when many requests come from the same network address, the mail arrives in English instead of your language.
How do I reset my password, and what if the link does not work?
- Forgot your password? sits above the Sign in button.
Step 1: Request a link
On the sign-in page, click Forgot your password?, enter your email address and click Send link.
Step 2: Open the mail
Click Set a new password in the mail “Reset your Slaide password”. The mail says the link expires in one hour, and the reset screen calls it a one-time link.
Step 3: Choose a new password
Enter it twice, with at least 8 characters, and click Save password.
Step 4: Sign in on your other devices
Slaide signs out your other devices for your safety. This browser stays signed in, so Go to sign in takes you straight into Slaide; on your other devices, sign in with the new password.
I am asked to wait before trying again
One message protects your account and Slaide from misuse: “For security, please wait N seconds before trying again.” It appears when you request several mails for one address in a short time.
- Wait as long as the message says, then try again. Each request counts towards the limit, so do not click repeatedly.
- Shared networks. Sign-up and password-reset requests are limited per network address, and offices, schools and mobile networks can share one. If that limit applies, no message appears and the mail may arrive in English. Try again later or from another network.
- Still blocked after waiting? Write to support with the time and what you see on the screen, as described below.
What should I send to support if nothing helps?
Write to info@slaide.de. Support usually answers within one business day, and the more exact your details are, the faster the cause is found. See Contact support.
- The email address of your Slaide account.
- How you sign in: Google, Apple or email and password.
- The exact message on the screen, or a screenshot.
- What you already tried, and roughly when it happened.
- Your browser and device.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Slaide not say whether an account exists for my address?
When you request a password reset, Slaide always shows the same message, whether or not an account exists. That keeps strangers from finding out which addresses have an account. Look in the inbox of the address you signed up with.
How long is a password reset link valid?
One hour, as the reset mail says, and the reset screen calls it a one-time link. After that, request a new link with Forgot your password? on the sign-in page.
Why was I signed out on my other devices after resetting my password?
Slaide signs out your other devices when you set a new password, for your safety. This browser stays signed in; on the other devices, sign in with the new password.
What does “Authentication failed.” mean?
It is a general message for an error that Slaide has no specific text for. Try again once. If it keeps appearing, write to support with the time, your browser and how you sign in.
I confirmed my email on my phone. Why am I not signed in on my computer?
The confirmation works for the account, but only the browser that opens the link gets signed in. On the computer, click I've confirmed, continue on the sign-up screen, or sign in normally.
Signing in with Google or Apple does not work
After the provider's page, you may land on the sign-in page with “We couldn’t finish signing you in, the link may have expired. Please try again.” This also appears after you cancel on the provider's page. A notice can also say “Authentication failed.”
