Share a document: public link, embed, gallery
In short
Click Share in the editor and Slaide creates a public link for your document and copies it. Anyone who has the link can view the pages, present slides and, if you allow it, copy the design as a template. The same panel gives you an embed code, a switch to show the document in the Slaide gallery and a switch to stop sharing, which ends the link for good.
What can I switch on in the share panel?
| Switch | What it does | Starts as |
|---|---|---|
| Public link | On: anyone with the address can view the document. Off: the link stops working for good. | Off until you click Share |
| Show in the Slaide gallery | Offers the document to the public gallery and lets search engines index its page. The gallery shows only the most recently updated documents, refreshes about every ten minutes, and Slaide may leave a document out. Needs at least one page. | Off |
| Allow use as template | Lets viewers copy the pages into their own account as a starting point. Your speaker notes are not copied. | On |
The panel also counts how often the page was opened and used as a template, for example “12 views” and “Used as a template 2×”. Visits by search engine robots and link previews are not counted.
What can people with the link do?
| Viewers can | Viewers cannot |
|---|---|
| Read all pages in the browser without an account | Edit the document or change anything in it |
| Present a presentation fullscreen when it has more than one slide | See your speaker notes, chat, earlier versions or uploaded source files |
| Copy the pages as a template into their own account, if you allow it | See your other documents or your account |
| See the current state: your changes appear when they reload the page | Download your document from the page, there is no download button |
While Slaide is still building a document, the page shows new pages as they appear. On the free plan the page carries a small Made with Slaide footer, and paid plans share without it.
How do I embed a document on a website?
Step 1: Create the public link
The embed code needs a public link. If there is none yet, the Embed tab offers Create public link.
Step 2: Copy the embed code
Open the Embed tab and click Copy embed code.
Step 3: Paste it where the document should appear
Paste the code into your website, wiki or any tool that accepts an iframe. It looks like
<iframe src="https://app.slaide.de/p/your-link/embed" width="100%" height="480" style="border:0" title="Slaide"></iframe>.
The embed shows one slide at a time with arrows for presentations, and scrolls for A4 reports. It has no Present or template button. On the free plan a small Made with Slaide link opens your public page in a new tab. Search engines are never offered the embed address, whatever the gallery switch says.
Should I share a link or invite a person?
| Compare | Public link | Invitation by email |
|---|---|---|
| Who can open it | Anyone who has the link | Only the invited email address |
| What they can do | Read, present, copy as a template | Edit the pages |
| Account needed | No, except to copy as a template | Yes, with the invited address |
| How to end it | Switch the public link off | Remove the person under People |
To work on a document together, see Work on a document together with others.
How do I stop sharing?
Step 1: Open the Link tab
Click the arrow next to Share and open the Link tab.
Step 2: Switch off Public link
Switch off Public link.
Step 3: Confirm
A question warns that the link stops working for good, including every embed. Confirm it.
- With Public link off, the line below the switch says Only you can see this document.
The old address then shows a neutral not-found page, and the document leaves the gallery. How long a search engine keeps an old result is up to the search engine. Deleting the document ends the sharing too.
Frequently asked questions
Is my shared document protected by a password?
No. Anyone who has the link can see the document. The address contains a random identifier that cannot be guessed, and the page is hidden from search engines unless you switch on Show in the Slaide gallery. Share the link only with people who may see the content.
Can people find my document on Google without the link?
Not by default. A public page asks search engines not to list it. Only if you switch on Show in the Slaide gallery is the document offered to the gallery, search engines and AI assistants, and that needs at least one page. The gallery shows only the most recently updated documents, and Slaide may leave one out.
Can viewers see my speaker notes?
No. Slaide removes speaker notes from every public surface: the page, the presentation view, the embed and the gallery. A copy that a viewer makes with Use as template, free does not contain them either. They stay in your document and in your PowerPoint export.
Why does the page say Made with Slaide?
Public pages and embeds of free accounts carry a small Made with Slaide note. Paid plans share without it. See Plans and pricing.
Why does my link end with ?ref= and a code?
Links you copy from the editor can end with ?ref= and your personal invite code, so that sign-ups through your page count as your invitation, see Invite friends. The page is the same without it. The embed address has no code.
Can an editor I invited share the document?
No. Only the owner publishes a document, changes the sharing options or switches sharing off. For an editor, the Share button copies the link to the document in the editor, which opens only for people with access.
