Create and edit
Change text, colors and layout by hand
In short
In Slaide you can change most things on a page by hand, without an AI request. Click an object to edit it, then use the toolbar under the header for font, size, colors, images, tables and order. Drag to move, use the handles to resize or rotate, and press Done when you finish. Hand edits use no credits.
What can I change without AI?
Text, colors, fonts, images, tables, shapes, positions and sizes. Click an object and a toolbar appears in a row under the header. Its left side fits what you selected. On the right sit Ask AI, Lock, Duplicate, Delete, Undo and Redo.
| What | How | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Text | Click it and type. Select words to style only them | Font, Font size, Text color, Bold, Italic, More text tools |
| Shapes and lines | Select the object, then change fill, border and corners | Shapes: Fill color, Border color, Border, Corner rounding. Lines and arrows: Color and Width. |
| Images | Select the image, then replace, crop, filter or flip it | Replace, Crop, Filter, Flip |
| Tables | Add or remove rows and columns, color cells, merge cells | Table, Cells, Edit cells |

| Page background | Click an empty spot on the page, then pick a color or gradient | Background color |
| New objects | Add a heading, text box, quote, image, shape or table | Text, Media, Shape and Table in the header while you edit |
How do I change a text?
Click the text and type. Formatting works on selected words or on the whole text box.
Step 1: Click the text
A frame appears around it and the cursor sits where you clicked.
Step 2: Type and format
Type your change. Select words first to style only them with Bold, Italic or Text color. Font, Font size and Text alignment always change the whole text box.
Step 3: Finish editing
Press Esc to stop typing, or Done in the header to leave editing. Slaide saves automatically.
How do I change colors and fonts?
Select the object and open the matching tool in the toolbar.
Step 1: Select the object
Click it. For text the cursor appears, and the toolbar stays available.
Step 2: Pick the tool
Use Text color, Font and Font size for text, and Fill color and Border color for shapes. Font opens a list you can search. The color menu lists colors already used in this document, a palette and a custom color; only Background color also offers gradients.
Step 3: Change the page background
While editing, click an empty spot on the page, then choose Background color. A solid color or a gradient works.
How do I move, resize and align objects?
Select the object first, then drag it or one of its handles.
Step 1: Move
Drag the object. Guides snap it to page edges, the page center and neighboring objects. Hold Alt (Option on a Mac) while dragging to drag a copy.
Step 2: Resize
Drag a corner handle. Images and text scale in proportion, shapes freely. Hold Shift to keep a shape in proportion. The side handles of a text box only change where the lines wrap.
Step 3: Rotate
Drag the round handle below the object. Hold Shift to turn in steps of 15 degrees.
Step 4: Align several objects
Drag a rectangle over empty space, Shift-click more objects, or press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on a Mac). Then open Arrange to align to each other, distribute from three objects on, or change the order.
What do I still need the AI for?
Anything beyond one object on one page: rewriting, restructuring, new content and charts.
- Charts: Slaide has no manual chart insert, so ask the AI to create or change one. You can still move, resize, duplicate or delete a chart by hand.
- Changes on many pages at once, such as a new accent color everywhere.
- Rewriting: shorter, clearer or translated text.
- New content or a new layout for a page.
On every page, change the accent color to #1d4ed8. Keep all other colors and do not change any text.
Why can't I edit an object?
- It is locked. A lock icon marks it and the toolbar says Locked · unlock to edit. Press the lock button (Ctrl+Shift+L). If the whole page is locked, choose Unlock page in the page menu.
- An AI request is running. The page is read-only until it finishes.
- It is a chart, or an image with text in it. You cannot type into those. Change a chart by AI request and replace the image.
- You are on a phone. There you get a short action bar (Edit text, Replace image, Move, Ask AI, Done) instead of the toolbar.
Frequently asked questions
Can I change the font or color on every page at once?
Not by hand. Direct editing changes the selected objects on one page at a time. To change a font or color on every page, ask the AI in the chat and say what must stay the same.
Can I insert a chart by hand?
No. The Insert buttons offer text, media, shapes and tables, but no chart. Ask the AI for a chart, or mark an area with text or numbers and click As chart. An existing chart can be moved, resized, duplicated and deleted by hand.
Are my hand edits saved automatically?
Yes. Slaide saves while you work and when you leave editing. The header shows Saving… and then Saved ✓. Offline it says Offline · saves as soon as you're back online, and if saving fails you can press Save failed · Retry.
How do I select an object that lies behind another one?
Ctrl-click (Cmd-click on a Mac) selects the object behind the current selection. Right-click shows all objects stacked at that spot under At this spot, and you can pick one from the list.
Can I edit text and design on my phone?
Only in a reduced way. On a phone, tap the document to open it fullscreen. Direct editing there offers a short action bar: Edit text for text, Replace image for pictures, plus Move, Ask AI and Done. There is no toolbar. For the full set of tools, use a computer.
