Version history: see and restore earlier states
In short
Slaide saves a version before every AI change, page action and round of hand edits, and lists them newest first in the Versions tab of the desktop editor. Open an entry to compare its first page with the current one, then press Restore and confirm. Slaide saves your current state first, so a restore can be reversed.
What creates a version?
Slaide saves a version before it changes your document. Each entry therefore holds the state before the change named in its label.
- The Versions tab shows how many versions exist.
- Each entry shows its age, the page count and what happened, for example Page 4 deleted.
| What happens | Label in the list |
|---|---|
| An AI request: in the chat, on a page area or with Animate | Your request text |
| Hand edits | Manual edit |
| Adding, duplicating, deleting or moving a page | Blank page added, Page 4 duplicated, Page 4 deleted, Page 3 moved to position 1 |
| Edits in a spreadsheet grid | Spreadsheet edit, at most one per two minutes |
| Importing a file | Import |
| Restoring or rewinding | Backup before restore, Backup before rewind |
What does a version contain?
- All pages with their content.
- The document title and the page format.
- Spreadsheets and web sources that pages are tied to.
- Not included: the chat and your other attachments, such as PDFs, templates and images.
How do I preview and restore a version?
Step 1: Open the Versions tab
It sits next to the Assistant tab in the desktop editor and shows how many versions exist.
Step 2: Open an entry
Each entry shows its age, the page count of the snapshot and its label. Click it to compare the first page of that version with the first page now.
Step 3: Restore it
Press Restore, then confirm Restore this version? with Restore. Slaide replaces the document with that state and answers Previous version restored.
- The question Restore this version? appears in the entry. Restore confirms it, Cancel keeps the document as it is.
Can I undo a restore?
Yes. Before every restore Slaide saves your current state as Backup before restore, listed as the newest entry. Restore that entry to go back.
Discarding an AI change with Discard in the Review change bar is a restore too, so it leaves the same backup. Rewind saves Backup before rewind.
What is the difference between Restore and Rewind?
| Question | Restore | Rewind |
|---|---|---|
| Where | In the Versions tab | Hover your message in the chat |
| What it does | Replaces the document with the chosen state | Resets the document to the state before that message and removes the later messages |
| Your message | Stays in the chat | Returns to the message box so you can change and resend it |
| Who can use it | The owner and invited editors | The owner of the document |
How many versions does Slaide keep?
Up to 50 versions per document, and up to 100 MB of history in total. When either limit is reached, the oldest entries are dropped first.
Frequently asked questions
Can I see the versions on my phone?
No. The Versions tab exists only in the desktop editor. Open the document on a computer to restore an earlier state.
Why is Restore greyed out?
Restore is disabled while an AI request is running. Wait until it finishes, or stop it, then try again.
Does restoring a version cost credits?
No. A restore is not an AI request, so it uses no credits. Slaide also saves a backup of your current state first.
Can I restore only one page from a version?
No. A restore always replaces the whole document, and the preview shows only the first page. Slaide saves your current state first, so you can compare and switch back.
Can I name or protect a version?
No. Slaide names entries automatically and drops the oldest ones when the limit is reached. To keep a state for good, export the file or duplicate the document.
