Keyboard shortcuts in Slaide

4 min readLast checked:

In short

In Slaide's desktop manual editor, use Ctrl on Windows or Command on Mac for shortcuts. Ctrl/Command+S saves; +Z undoes; +Shift+Z redoes. Object shortcuts apply to the selected page object, while shortcuts in a focused text field belong to that field. Escape closes or cancels the current editing action.

When do these shortcuts work?

Open a document on a computer and enter manual editing. Select an object on the page before using an object action. In the tables below, Mod means Ctrl on Windows or Command on Mac; it does not mean pressing both keys together.

The focused area matters. While typing in the chat, inspector or another field outside the page, page shortcuts are left to that field. While editing page text, normal text selection and undo apply to the text; saving and text formatting remain available.

How do I save, undo and format text?

KeysAction
Mod + SSave the current manual edits.
Mod + ZUndo a manual object edit; while typing, undo text editing.
Mod + Shift + Z / Mod + YRedo a manual object edit.
Mod + BToggle bold.
Mod + IToggle italic.
Mod + UToggle underline.

Manual undo and document versions solve different problems. A page-edit shortcut does not rewind an AI conversation. For an earlier document state, open version history. Check the selected object or text before formatting so you change the intended content.

How do I work with selected objects?

KeysAction in manual editing
Mod + DDuplicate the selected object.
Delete / BackspaceDelete the selected object when not typing text.
Mod + GGroup the selected objects.
Mod + Shift + GUngroup the selection.
Mod + ASelect page objects when not editing text.
EnterEdit the selected text or open image cropping.
Tab / Shift + TabMove through selectable objects on the page.

Escape works in stages: it can close an object menu, cancel a gesture or crop, leave text editing, clear the selection, or leave manual editing. The first press therefore does not always exit the whole editor. Check the visible selection after each action.

Is there a command palette?

Yes. Press Mod + K in the library or in the document editor to open the command palette. Type in the search field “Search actions ...” to filter, use the arrow keys to choose an action, press Enter to run it and Escape to close the palette.

The command palette after Ctrl or Cmd + K: the search field “Search actions ...” with the hint esc at the top and the list of actions below it, the first one selected.
  1. Type here to filter the actions, for example “Export PDF”.
  2. Choose an action with the arrow keys and press Enter to run it. Escape closes the palette.
WhereActions the palette offers
LibraryNew document, Brand, Open PowerPoint, PDF or Word, New folder, and each of your documents by title to open it.
Document editorExport PDF, Present, Share public link, Animate deck (slides with more than one page), a change of page format, Duplicate document, Show versions, New document, Library, Settings and Go to page N.

In manual editing, Mod + K with an object selected does something else: it opens Ask AI for that object, so you can request a focused change. Without a selection, it opens the palette.

Which keys work while presenting?

KeysAction in presentation mode
Space, right arrow, Page Down or EnterNext animation step or slide.
Left arrow, Page Up or BackspaceBack.
NShow or hide the speaker notes on a computer.
EscThe first press leaves full screen, the next one ends the presentation.

These keys belong to presentation mode and need no Mod key. Present and speaker notes covers touch gestures and how notes work.

How do I zoom and search help?

KeysAction
Mod + plus / minusZoom the document view when no text field has focus.
Mod + 0Fit the document to the available width.
Mod + mouse wheelZoom around the pointer in the document view.
/ or Mod + KOpen search while browsing this help center.

Zoom changes the view, not the page size or exported dimensions. Help-center search shortcuts belong to the help site and should not be confused with editor actions. In the search dialog, use arrow keys to choose a result, Enter to open it and Escape to close the dialog.

If a shortcut behaves differently, first check where focus is and whether manual editing is active. Browser or operating-system shortcuts can also use the same keys. You can always use the visible controls when a keyboard layout makes a shortcut awkward.

Frequently asked questions

Do I use Ctrl or Command on Mac?

Use Command on Mac and Ctrl on Windows for the Mod shortcuts in this article. Select the intended object or text before triggering an editing action.

Why does undo only change the text I am typing?

When a text field has focus, undo belongs to that text-editing context. Manual object undo and restoring a previous document version are separate actions.

Does zoom change the exported page size?

No. Zoom only changes your document view. The page format controls exported dimensions; zooming in or fitting to width leaves that format unchanged.

What does Ctrl or Command + K do in the editor?

With an object selected in manual editing, it opens Ask AI for that object. Otherwise, it opens the command palette, where you type an action such as Export PDF, Present or Show versions and press Enter.

Is there a shortcut to jump to a page?

In the editor, not as a key combination. Open the command palette with Mod + K, type “Go to page” and a number, and press Enter; the view jumps to that page. While presenting, the arrow keys move through the slides.
