Create and edit
Edit your document and undo changes
In short
In Slaide you change a document in two ways: click an object on the page and edit it directly, or ask the AI in the chat box or on a marked page area. Undo a hand edit with Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac). Before every AI change Slaide saves the earlier state, so you can discard a change or restore a version.
How can I change something in my document?
You can mix two ways. Editing by hand is immediate and needs no AI request. Asking the AI takes a moment and counts as a request.
| Way | How | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Edit by hand | Click an object on the page, then type or use the toolbar | Wording, colors, fonts, positions, images |
| Ask in the chat | Describe the change in the message box and send it | Several pages at once, new content, restructuring |
| Mark an area | Drag a rectangle over part of a page, then describe the change | One headline, one table, one block of text |
| Ask about one object | Select the object and press Ask AI (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K) | A focused change to a single element |
How do I ask the AI for a focused change?
Say where, what and what must stay: name the page and the object, and state the result you want. A narrow request changes less than a broad one.
Step 1: Mark the area
Drag over the part of the page you want to change. A small box opens next to it. If you are editing an object, press Done or Esc first, then drag. Or select an object and press Ask AI.
Step 2: Describe the change
Type your request and press Enter. While the box is empty you can click a shortcut instead: Shorter, Clearer, As chart or Polish.
Step 3: Review the result
A bar called Review change appears at the top of the page. Accept keeps the change. Discard puts the whole document back to the state before it.
On page 3, shorten the three bullet points to one line each. Keep the numbers and leave the headline as it is.
Change the headline on page 1 to: Q3 results at a glance. Do not change anything else on the page.
How do I undo a change?
What you press depends on how the change was made.
| The change was | How to undo it |
|---|---|
| A hand edit | Press Ctrl+Z (Cmd+Z on a Mac) or Undo at the right end of the toolbar. Redo is Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y. All shortcuts: Keyboard shortcuts in Slaide. |
| An AI edit on an area or object | Press Discard in the Review change bar. The whole document returns to the state before that edit. |
| An AI request from the chat | Open the Versions tab, pick the entry with your request and press Restore. Or hover your message and use Rewind, which also removes the later messages. |
| A deleted, moved or duplicated page | In the Versions tab, restore the entry named after the action, for example Page 4 deleted. |
What does Slaide save before a change?
Slaide saves versions without a save button. Each entry holds the document as it was before the change named in its label, so restoring it takes you back to that point.
- AI request: one version per request, taken before the first change, labeled with your request.
- Hand edits: saved automatically while you work and when you leave editing, each save as a Manual edit version. The header shows Saving… and then Saved ✓.
- Page actions: adding, deleting, moving and duplicating a page each create a version.
- A version holds the pages, title, page format, workbooks and web sources. It does not hold the chat or your other attachments.
Which keyboard shortcuts help while editing?
| Shortcut | What it does |
|---|---|
| Ctrl+Z / Cmd+Z | Undo |
| Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y / Cmd+Shift+Z | Redo |
| Ctrl+K / Cmd+K | Ask the AI about the selected object. Without a selection: open the command palette |
| Ctrl+S / Cmd+S | Save now |
| Ctrl+D / Cmd+D | Duplicate the selected object |
| Delete or Backspace | Delete the selected object |
| Arrow keys | Move the object by 1 pixel, with Shift by 10 pixels |
| Esc | Step back out of editing. While the AI works, Esc stops the request |
Frequently asked questions
Does editing by hand use credits?
No. Hand edits and page actions such as adding, duplicating, deleting and reordering run without an AI request and use no credits. Only requests to the AI count. See Credits explained.
Can I undo an AI change after I closed the document?
Yes, with the Versions tab. Every AI request that changes the document saves the earlier state first. Open the document in the desktop editor, open Versions, pick the entry and press Restore. Ctrl+Z cannot do this, because its steps vanish when the editor closes.
Can I undo a restore?
Yes. Before a restore Slaide saves your current state as Backup before restore. Restore that entry to come back. Redo (Ctrl+Shift+Z or Ctrl+Y) only reverses an undo of a hand edit.
Can I edit while the AI is working?
Not on the page: it is read-only until the request finishes, and page actions answer that Slaide is working on the document. Wait, or stop the request with Esc. A message you send meanwhile joins the running request or waits in the queue.
Can I undo changes on my phone?
On a phone, tap the document to open it fullscreen. The short action bar there (Edit text, Replace image, Move, Ask AI, Done) has no Undo, and the Versions tab exists only in the desktop editor. To go back, use a computer or ask the AI to change it back.
