In short

Slaide offers A4 portrait and two more portrait sizes, 16:9, 4:3 and HD slides, and a custom size of 200 to 10,000 pixels per side. You choose the format in the plan or name it in your request, and you can switch it later with Ctrl+K or Cmd+K. The format decides the Office file: Word for portrait pages, PowerPoint for slides and custom sizes.

Which format fits what I am making?

Slides for the classic screen ratio
A custom size or Slides 4:3, exported as PowerPoint. Ask for 4:3 in your request and Slaide builds a custom size with that ratio. It exports as PowerPoint but is not a slide format, so it has no Animate button. For the preset Slides 4:3 (1024 × 768 pixels), press Ctrl+K or Cmd+K after the build and choose Format: Slides 4:3.
An Excel model
Excel workbook, exported as Excel. Choose Excel workbook in the format switch of the plan. A workbook has no pages, so it exports as Excel and not as PDF, PNG or JPG. See Build, edit and download Excel models.

Which page formats and sizes are there?

Slaide has three portrait formats, three slide formats and a free custom size. Sizes are in pixels at 96 pixels per inch, so A4 is 794 by 1123.

Where do I choose the format?

  1. Step 1: Name the format in your request (optional)

Say what you need, for example “a square social post” or “an A4 report”. If you name nothing, Slaide picks from the kind of document: slides for presentations, A4 for reports and letters, a custom size for posters and social posts.

    Example request

Create a square Instagram post for our café's grand opening on Saturday. Bold colors, one big headline, the address at the bottom. Size: 1080 by 1080 pixels.

  2. Step 2: Check the format in the plan

On a computer, the plan of a new document has a Page format switch at the top right. It shows the proposed format and changes it right in the plan.

Slaide page plan for an 8-slide sales review: the chosen answers at the top, one card per slide with title and content, the assumptions below, a 16:9 format switch and the buttons Tweak it and Let's go
  3. Step 3: Choose a format or enter a custom size

The switch offers A4 Portrait, Slides 16:9, Custom size and Excel workbook. For a custom size, enter width and height in pixels, between 200 and 10,000, and click OK.

Can I change the format after the document is built?

Yes, but only the page frame changes, not the content. Press Ctrl+K (Cmd+K on a Mac), type “Format” and choose an entry such as Format: Slides 16:9. The command palette lists the preset formats other than the current one, not a custom size.

You cannot switch the format while Slaide is building. The editor has no format menu in its header, so the palette and the plan are the two places.

How does the format decide what I can export?

Page formatOffice fileWhat you get
A4 Portrait, Portrait Compact, Portrait LargeWord (.docx)Real headings, lists and tables on A4 pages. Compact and Large pages are scaled onto A4.
Slides 16:9, Slides 4:3, Slides HDPowerPoint (.pptx)A file with the same slide size and shape as in Slaide.
Custom sizePowerPoint (.pptx)A file with your page size.
A4 Landscape (older documents)PowerPoint (.pptx)Not offered for new documents.
Excel workbookExcel (.xlsx)A workbook without pages, so no PDF, PNG or JPG.

Every format with pages also exports as PDF, PNG and JPG. See Files and exports and PowerPoint export.

What else depends on the format?

  • Animate appears only for the three slide formats and for decks with at least two pages, on a computer. See Animations and transitions.
  • Speaker notes show under every slide in the slide formats. In other formats the notes field appears only when a page has one. See Present and speaker notes.

Frequently asked questions

Which format does Slaide choose if I name none?

It decides from the kind of document: 16:9 slides for presentations and pitch decks, A4 portrait for reports, essays and letters, and a custom size for posters and social posts. The plan shows its choice before anything is built, and you can change it there.

Can I make an A4 landscape page?

A4 Landscape is not offered for new documents. Use a custom size of 1123 by 794 pixels instead, which is the same shape. A custom size exports as PowerPoint, not as Word.

What size is the PowerPoint file?

The same size and shape as the page in Slaide, at 96 pixels per inch. A 16:9 slide of 1280 by 720 pixels becomes 13.33 by 7.5 inches.

Why is there no format menu in the editor?

The editor header has no format picker. Set the format in the plan before the build, or press Ctrl+K or Cmd+K and choose a Format: entry afterwards.

How big can a custom size be?

Each side can be between 200 and 10,000 pixels. Values outside that range are adjusted to it.
