Check facts, sources and calculations

4 min readLast checked:

In short

Review a Slaide document against your source material before using it. Check figures, dates, names and citations; distinguish supplied facts, researched facts and assumptions. For calculations, inspect the spreadsheet formulas and inputs. Slaide's visual page checks do not replace a factual review by you.

Where should the facts come from?

Give Slaide the documents and figures it should use. State the source date and whether external research is allowed. A request such as “Use only the attached report” sets a clearer boundary than a general request to make a persuasive presentation.

TypeWhat to verify
Supplied factDoes the page match the file or information you provided?
Researched factDoes the linked source support the exact claim and period?
Assumption or proposalIs it clearly labeled and appropriate for the requested task?
Calculated resultDo the inputs, units and formulas produce the stated result?

Missing local facts should remain missing until you supply evidence. Do not accept an invented customer count, baseline or market share because it makes the slide look complete. A recommendation can be useful, but must remain distinguishable from an observed result.

How does Slaide treat facts while it writes?

Slaide works from instructions about evidence. They make a result easier to check, but they do not make it error-free.

  • Gaps stay gaps. Missing local facts, baselines or comparisons should not be filled with invented numbers, and wording such as “most” should not turn into a precise figure.
  • Your facts stay yours. When you ask for a layout or readability change, numbers, dates, names and sources should stay as they are.
  • Links are not proof. For a decision-critical claim, Slaide is told to read the relevant passage of the source, keep its date and units, and say so when sources disagree instead of merging the figures.
  • Assumptions are named. A recommendation that Slaide adds because you asked for a plan should be labeled, for example as a proposal or planning assumption. The final chat message after a build names material assumptions and says so when a check could not be run.

A language model can still misread a source or miss a mistake. That is why the checks in this article stay with you.

How do I check research and citations?

  1. Step 1: Open the source list

When a request used web research, inspect the sources in the assistant panel. More about the list is under Web research and sources.

  2. Step 2: Read the supporting passage

Open the original source and locate the value or statement. Check whether it supports the exact claim, rather than merely discussing the same topic.

  3. Step 3: Check date and scope

Confirm the period, geography, population and units. A number for one country or one year cannot silently stand for a worldwide or current result.

A source link is a starting point for review. It does not mean every nearby sentence has been verified. For changing facts, use a recent authoritative source and request a correction when the document and source disagree.

How do I check calculations and charts?

  • Compare input values with the source, including signs, percentages, currencies and period lengths.
  • Inspect formulas in the underlying spreadsheet. Check totals and ratios rather than accepting rounded display values alone.
  • Compare chart labels and scales with the data. Check that categories, totals and the main conclusion agree.

Slaide can evaluate supported spreadsheet formulas and inspect page rendering. Those checks have a specific scope: they cannot prove that a supplied assumption is true or that every external fact is current. An unexpected result warrants checking the inputs; it is not automatically an error.

How do I ask for an evidence-based correction?

Name the page, the incorrect statement, the correct source and the replacement. Ask for dependent figures or conclusions to be updated too. Review the changed page and its exported file before sharing it with the intended audience.

Example request

Page 4 states revenue of 2.4 million EUR. The attached report, table on page 7, says 2.1 million EUR for 2025. Correct that value, update the related percentage and chart, and remove any growth claim that is no longer supported. Keep the source reference visible.

Frequently asked questions

Does Slaide make up numbers?

Slaide is instructed not to fill missing facts with invented figures and to label proposals and assumptions. That lowers the risk but does not remove it. Check every figure that matters against your source, and supply missing values yourself.

Does the page render check also verify all facts?

No. A render check concerns the visual page. Review factual claims against source material and check calculations against their inputs and formulas separately.

Are researched numbers always current?

Research can use sources from different dates. Open the source and check its period and scope before treating a figure as current. Ask for a newer authoritative source when needed.

How should assumptions appear in my document?

Label assumptions or proposals visibly and keep them separate from observed facts. Include the reason and inputs when a calculated result depends on an assumption.
