> Slaide exports presentations as a real .pptx: text becomes editable text boxes with PowerPoint bullets, shapes stay shapes, tables become tables and speaker notes land in the notes pane. Charts arrive as editable shapes or as an image, not as PowerPoint chart objects, and effects PowerPoint cannot draw become pictures. Entrance animations and transitions come along, fonts are referenced by name.

## What do I get when I export to PowerPoint?

The export is a regular .pptx file that you open in PowerPoint and change like any other presentation. What PowerPoint can express becomes real PowerPoint objects, a few things arrive as pictures.

| Element | In PowerPoint | Good to know |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Text | Text boxes with PowerPoint bullets | Line breaks are set as in the preview, so more text does not re-wrap by itself. |
| Shapes and lines | Shapes, lines, fills, gradients, borders and shadows | You can recolor and move them. |
| Pictures | Pictures | You can replace, move and resize them. |
| Tables | PowerPoint tables | The cells stay editable. |
| Charts | Editable shapes, or an image | Not PowerPoint chart objects, so there is no data sheet behind them. |
| Effects | A picture of that element | Blur, blend modes, clipped shapes, inner shadows and rotated text. |
| Speaker notes | The notes pane of the slide | Notes never appear on the slide itself. |
| Animations | PowerPoint animations and transitions | See the section on animations. |

> **Note:** When a part of a page cannot be rebuilt reliably, Slaide draws that part as a picture so it looks right. If a whole slide cannot be rebuilt, the slide arrives as one picture. Click an element: if PowerPoint selects a picture, that is what happened.

## How do I export a presentation as PowerPoint?

![The open Export menu of a pitch deck in Slaide with PowerPoint (editable slides, .pptx), PDF (vector document), PNG (image per page) and JPG (smaller images).](https://help.slaide.de/images/help/export-menu-en.webp)

1. **Open the document**. Open the presentation in the editor. Slide formats such as 16:9 and 4:3 export as PowerPoint.
2. **Click Export**. The button is at the top right. The menu offers **PowerPoint** (Editable slides (.pptx)), PDF, PNG and JPG.
3. **Choose PowerPoint**. A window shows the stages and the pages done. The download starts by itself as soon as the file is ready.

A4 documents export as Word instead, see [Files and exports](https://help.slaide.de/files-and-exports).

## What can look different in PowerPoint?

These differences come up most often.

| What you see | Why | What to do |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Another font | Fonts are written by name and not embedded. | Install the font or choose one the computer has. See [Fonts in exports](https://help.slaide.de/fonts-in-exports). |
| Text does not re-wrap when you type | Line breaks are fixed as in the preview. | Press Enter where a line should end. |
| Different animation timing | PowerPoint plays a slide's animations after its transition. | See the section on animations. |

More causes and fixes are in [Why an export can look different](https://help.slaide.de/export-looks-different).

## Do animations and transitions come along?

Yes. The entrance animations and transitions that Slaide plays are exported as PowerPoint animations and transitions, with the same easing, delays and staggers.

| In Slaide | In PowerPoint |
| --- | --- |
| Entrance with movement, scale, rotation, fading or a reveal | A matching entrance effect with the same easing and delay |
| Elements one after another, click steps | The same order and spacing, one click per step |
| Text that enters by word, character or line | Text that enters by word, character or line |
| A line or a ring that draws itself | A wipe for the line, the wheel effect for the ring |
| A morph between two slides | PowerPoint Morph |
| Any other transition | The nearest one: wipe, circle, push, cover, pull or fade |
| Blur, color, filter, shadow or size changes | Not carried, they play only in Slaide |
| Elements that leave a slide | Not carried, they play only in Slaide |

> **Note:** PowerPoint plays a slide's animations after its transition, not during it, so a stagger that starts during the transition begins when it ends. A table is one PowerPoint object, so its row animations fade the whole table in. Chart parts exported as shapes enter one by one.

You add motion with **Animate** in the editor header. [Animations and transitions](https://help.slaide.de/animations-and-transitions) explains the styles.

## What about a deck I imported from PowerPoint?

When the export carries no Slaide mark (paid plans, or a document bought individually), slides you did not change are normally taken unchanged from your original file. They keep their layout and whatever animations the original slide had. Slaide draws only the slides you changed or added. If your original file is no longer attached or the transfer is not possible, Slaide draws every slide anew. This applies to decks imported from PowerPoint, not from PDF.

Slaide does not read animations or transitions when it imports a deck, so they do not play in Slaide and are lost on slides Slaide redraws. Add new ones with **Animate**.

On the free plan Slaide draws every slide anew and adds its small mark, so nothing is passed through. See [Import a presentation](https://help.slaide.de/import-a-presentation).

## How should I check the file before I present?

- Open it on the computer you present from.
- Click a few texts and read the font name in the Font box on the Home tab.
- Play the slides in Slide Show mode to see the animations and transitions.
- Keep the PDF from Slaide as a fallback. It shows the pages as they look in the editor.

> **Tip:** If the layout must be exact, for example for a printout, send the PDF and keep the PowerPoint file for editing.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is the exported PowerPoint file editable?

Yes. Text becomes text boxes with PowerPoint bullets, shapes stay shapes, tables become tables and pictures stay pictures. Charts arrive as editable shapes or as an image, and effects that PowerPoint cannot draw become pictures of that element.

### Are my charts real PowerPoint charts?

No. They arrive as shapes or as an image, not as PowerPoint chart objects, so there is no data sheet behind them. Change the numbers in Slaide and export again.

### Are my speaker notes in the file?

Yes. Notes you write in the field under a slide land in the notes pane of the same slide in PowerPoint. They never appear on the slide itself.

### Will my fonts look the same in PowerPoint?

The file names the font and does not embed it. With the font installed, the text looks the same. Otherwise PowerPoint picks a replacement and lines can run wider or narrower. See [Fonts in exports](https://help.slaide.de/fonts-in-exports).

### Do animations and transitions export?

Entrance animations and transitions do, including click steps, text by word, character or line, and a morph as PowerPoint Morph. Blur, color, filter, shadow and size changes and exit animations play only in Slaide.

### Is a free export marked?

Yes. On the free plan each slide carries a small Slaide mark at the bottom right. Paid plans and documents bought individually export without it. See [Plans and pricing](https://help.slaide.de/plans-and-pricing).
